In view of the intense heat conditions in Rajkot, the Municipal Corporation has issued a public advisory urging citizens to take necessary precautions. The Rajkot Municipal Corporation has specifically requested people to avoid stepping out between 1 pm and 4 pm and to consume natural and hydrating beverages.
The temperature in Rajkot city and district has been rising steadily, leading to a heatwave situation. Considering the health risks associated with extreme heat, the civic body has taken proactive measures and issued a detailed health advisory through WhatsApp to reach residents quickly.
Avoid going out during peak hours
As per the guidelines issued by RMC, citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement, especially between 1 pm and 4 pm, when sunlight is at its strongest. During this period, the risk of heatstroke increases significantly. The advisory particularly emphasizes extra care for pregnant women, senior citizens, children, and individuals with health conditions.
Do’s and don’ts during heatwave
Recommended precautions:
- Avoid tea, coffee, and sugary or artificial drinks; instead, prefer water, buttermilk, lemon water, and coconut water
- Wear light-coloured cotton clothing when stepping outside
- Use protective items like caps, sunglasses, and scarves to shield from direct sunlight
- Consume light, fresh meals and maintain proper hydration throughout the day
Awareness through WhatsApp
To ensure wider reach, the Rajkot Municipal Corporation has circulated the advisory through WhatsApp and social media platforms. The civic body has also advised that if anyone experiences symptoms such as dizziness, vomiting, or high fever—common signs of heatstroke—they should immediately seek medical attention at the nearest health facility.
