A video showing rats roaming inside a McDonald’s outlet near Greenland Chowkdi in Rajkot has gone viral on social media, prompting the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) Health Department to order an investigation.
The video shows two rats moving around the tables and benches in the customer seating area. The footage appears to have been recorded from outside the outlet through a glass window, with McCafé signage and menus visible in the background.
The sighting has raised concerns about hygiene and food safety at the outlet. Rodents can contaminate food and surfaces, making proper sanitation and pest control important at food establishments.
RMC Health Officer Dr Jayesh Vankani said the civic body noticed the video on social media and directed officials to investigate the matter.
“Our team has been instructed to conduct a thorough investigation. If any negligence by the establishment is found, action will be taken as per the rules. Any activity compromising public health will not be tolerated,” Vankani said.
This is not the first controversy involving a McDonald’s outlet in Rajkot. Earlier, the chain’s outlet at Reliance Mall on Yagnik Road came under scrutiny after a customer alleged that non-vegetarian food was served despite placing a vegetarian order. The incident had triggered a controversy at the time.
The latest video has again raised questions about hygiene and food safety at McDonald’s outlets in the city. The municipal health authorities are now investigating the matter.
