Ahmedabad’s Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested two men and detained a woman on Sunday after seizing 99 grams of mephedrone valued at around ₹9.9 lakh near Delhi Darwaza crossroads in the Madhupura area.According to PSI R.K. Vaniya, the SOG team was patrolling the area on October 5 when they noticed a private luxury bus, Ashok Travels, arriving from Mandsaur (Madhya Pradesh). Among the passengers, they identified Chirag Ali Sheikh (32), a resident of Khanpur with a criminal record. Sheikh was accompanied by Ejaz Miya Arab (29) of Mirzapur and Seema alias Mubin Khan Pathan (34) of Sarkhej.A search led to the recovery of a plastic bag containing white powder from Sheikh’s pocket, which he admitted was mephedrone (MD). The SOG team cordoned off the area, called forensic experts, and recorded the seizure process. Laboratory tests confirmed the substance as mephedrone.The drugs, weighing 98.97 grams, were sealed and valued at ₹9.89 lakh. Officers also seized two mobile phones and a bus ticket from Ashok Travels.During interrogation, Sheikh and Arab allegedly revealed they had procured the contraband from a supplier named Imran in Mandsaur, who sent an associate, Raees, to deliver it. The accused had travelled to Mandsaur on October 3 and returned to Ahmedabad with the consignment. The woman, Seema, reportedly accompanied them to avoid police suspicion.A case has been registered under the NDPS Act against all four accused. While Imran and Raees remain absconding, efforts are underway to trace them. Both arrested men were produced before a magistrate and remanded to police custody for further investigation.
