Ahmedabad: A suspected drug delivery racket involving the Porter app has come to light in Ahmedabad after an alert delivery worker reported a suspicious parcel to the police. Naroda Police have arrested Amit Sindhi of Sardarnagar, who allegedly sent the drugs, and Priyank Sanghvi, a businessman from Sabarmati, who allegedly ordered them.
Suspicious Parcel Raises Alarm
According to police, Naroda Police received information from the control room around 9 pm on Monday about a suspected drug-related incident near Nana Chiloda Circle.
During the investigation, police learned that Vasantbhai Madhubhai Solanki, a resident of Janata Nagar in Chandkheda, worked as a delivery worker through the Porter app. He had received an order to deliver a parcel to a person named Satishbhai near Kothari Hospital at Indira Bridge Circle. However, the sender later instructed him to deliver it near Nana Chiloda in Naroda.
After receiving the OTP, Satishbhai contacted the delivery worker. When the parcel was opened, a substance suspected to be drugs was found inside. The matter was subsequently reported to the police control room.
0.77 Grams of Mephedrone Seized
With assistance from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), police examined the substance and identified it as 0.77 grams of mephedrone, reportedly worth ₹1,540.
Investigators found that the mobile number of timber trader Satishbhai Sarania had allegedly been used to place the order. Although the parcel was booked in his name, he reportedly had no connection with the drugs.
Random Mobile Numbers Allegedly Used
According to the police investigation, the accused allegedly used random mobile numbers while booking drug deliveries through the Porter app. The delivery worker’s contact details were then reportedly used to communicate with the intended recipient. The parcel was allegedly collected using the explanation that the original recipient’s phone was switched off.
Police have arrested Amit Sindhi of Sardarnagar and Priyank Sanghvi, a businessman from Sabarmati, in connection with the case.
Further investigation is underway to establish the full extent of the alleged racket and the roles of those involved.
