A shocking murder case has come to light in Gujarat’s Rajkot district, where a man has been arrested for allegedly killing a person he had met through social media after a long-running personal dispute.
According to Police, the accused, Piyush Bablu Kharwar (30), originally from Uttar Pradesh, allegedly murdered Chandan (26), a native of Bihar, after an argument. Police say the accused had been trying to avoid the victim for nearly three years before the incident.
Burnt Body Found Near Shapar
On June 24, police recovered a partially burnt body dressed in women’s clothes and jewellery near Muscat Gate in Shapar. Initially, officers believed the body was that of a woman.
However, the post-mortem revealed that the deceased was a man. Suspecting murder, Shapar Police launched an investigation and examined footage from nearly 100 CCTV cameras before identifying the victim and solving the case.
Friendship Began on Social Media
During the investigation, police found that Chandan had allegedly created social media profiles using female identities, including “Nisha Kumar” on Facebook and “Poonam” on Instagram. Through these accounts, Chandan came in contact with Piyush, and the two developed a friendship.
Police said they later met in Hyderabad, where Piyush was working. The two reportedly lived together for a few months before Piyush allegedly discovered that Chandan was biologically male. This reportedly led to a dispute, after which Piyush left and returned to his hometown.
Police Say Dispute Continued for Years
According to the police, Piyush changed his place of residence several times over the next three years, but Chandan allegedly continued to track him down and insisted on staying with him. Investigators say the two frequently argued.
A few days before the incident, Piyush had moved to Padwala village near Shapar, where he was staying with his younger brother and working in a factory. Police allege that Chandan again located him, leading to another confrontation.
During the argument, Piyush allegedly assaulted Chandan, who became semi-conscious. Police claim the accused then took him to a secluded spot and fatally attacked him by hitting him on the head with stones before attempting to burn the body to hide the evidence.
Shapar Police have arrested the accused and are continuing their investigation into the case.
