In a major anti-corruption action, the Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught a CGST superintendent and a tax consultant red-handed while accepting a ₹20 lakh bribe. Both have been arrested.
The main accused, CGST superintendent Mukesh Kumar, had allegedly demanded ₹25 lakh from a complainant, promising to go easy in a GST case related to non-payment and incorrect billing.
After negotiations, the bribe amount was reduced to ₹20 lakh. The complainant refused to pay and informed the ACB, which then set up a trap. Kumar told the complainant to hand over the money to a tax consultant, Akash Kaloliya, near Creative Complex behind the ST bus station in Rajkot.
As soon as Kaloliya accepted the money, ACB officials caught him on the spot. Kumar was arrested soon after. A case has been registered against both, and further investigation is underway.
