The Vivekanandanagar police on Friday seized Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth 37.41 lakh from a farmhouse near Vadodara village in Sanand. The raid took place while the liquor was being offloaded from a container and repackaged.
Police had intensified patrolling and checks across the Sanand division ahead of the year-end. During one such drive, officials received a tip-off that a farmhouse owned by Firozkhan Mahmudkhan Bailiff—known locally as Gharada Ghar—was being used to store and “cut” liquor brought in from outside Gujarat.
On reaching the site, police found a closed-body container, a white Tata Zest, a motorcycle, and several boxes used to hide liquor bottles. A detailed search revealed 7,108 bottles of premium IMFL.
The liquor alone was valued at ₹37.41 lakh. Police also recovered 1,144 empty Bournvita boxes used for concealment (valued at ₹78.12 lakh) and vehicles worth ₹17.15 lakh. The total seizure amounted to ₹1.32 crore.
A case has been filed under the Gujarat Prohibition Act. The prime accused, Firozkhan Mahmudkhan Bailiff, is on the run. Police are also looking for the container driver, the Tata Zest driver, and other suspects linked to the operation.
Investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the liquor and the wider smuggling network.
