Bapunagar police have registered an FIR against 35-year-old Darshil Shah of Sola for allegedly hacking the phone of a woman acquaintance and sending defamatory messages about her to family members, friends, and potential suitors.
The complainant, identified as Sonal (37), alleged that she met Darshil through an online platform in February 2025, after which they began communicating regularly and discussed marriage. The two occasionally visited each other’s homes and developed a close relationship.
According to Sonal, Darshil initially claimed that she could help him with his work due to her education. However, she later discovered that he had hacked her phone and accessed private conversations. When she confronted him and refused to continue the relationship, Darshil allegedly threatened her and spread false information about her character.
Sonal further alleged that Darshil contacted her younger brother from an international number on October 4, making obscene and false claims about her, and also shared similar messages with her relatives and friends, reportedly trying to sabotage her marriage proposals.
Despite repeated warnings, the harassment continued. Based on her complaint and submitted evidence, the Bapunagar police have filed a case under the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for cyberstalking, criminal intimidation, and defamation.
Inspector S G Khambhala of Bapunagar Police Station confirmed the FIR and said that the investigation is underway. “We have taken cognisance of the cyber intrusion and defamatory messages. Technical analysis of the phone and digital records is in progress,” he said.
