A 22-year-old woman from Hooghly, West Bengal, has filed a police complaint alleging harassment, abuse, and extortion threats by a former colleague during her stint at a hotel in Ahmedabad.
According to a media report, the complainant, Anandita Maiti, said she worked as a chef at Hotel Pride Plaza in Bodakdev between March and August 2023. During this time, she alleged that a cook from Kharagpur, West Bengal — identified as Sameer Sahoo alias Saheer Sadhu — repeatedly harassed her.
According to her statement, Sahoo used obscene language, threatened to kill her, and pressured her into a relationship. When she resisted, the harassment intensified, forcing her to resign.
Maiti further alleged that after she quit, Sahoo continued to call her and her family, demanding 50,000 and threatening her parents in Hooghly.
A Zero FIR was initially lodged at Baliapanda police station in Kolkata under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to intimidation, harassment, and extortion. The case has since been transferred to Vastrapur police station in Ahmedabad.
Police said they are verifying Sahoo’s whereabouts and that the accused is yet to be apprehended. “The complaint involves sustained harassment both at the workplace and later, along with threats and extortion demands. Investigation is underway,” a senior officer confirmed.
