Clash Erupts at Ellisbridge’s Orient Club Over Membership Dispute; Swords Drawn, Members Assaulted

A violent fight broke out on Tuesday at the upscale Orient Club in Ellisbridge, Ahmedabad, after a disagreement over the cancellation of a membership. The situation quickly turned serious, with reports of vandalism, assault, and weapons being used. Both sides have now filed complaints at the Ellisbridge police station.

According to a media report, the fight started when the club cancelled the membership of Bhupendra Shah and his family. This led to an argument between club member Bhadresh Shah and the club’s committee members. Police say Bhadresh Shah then called around 10 to 15 outsiders, who entered the club and caused further chaos.

“The men who entered the club were reportedly armed with swords and sticks,” said a senior officer familiar with the case. “There was widespread vandalism. Plates were broken in the restaurant area, furniture was damaged, and valuables, including a chain, wristwatch, and wallet, were allegedly stolen from one of the committee members.”

During the incident, committee member Divyang Shah was allegedly beaten severely. “They dragged him from outside into the club and continued to assault him. He was questioned about other committee members,” said Ajit Patel, another senior club member.

The club’s secretary was reportedly attacked on the first floor, dragged downstairs, and beaten again. Several members were injured and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police have registered two separate FIRs related to the incident. One was filed by Bhadresh Shah, accusing club members Divyang Shah, Rajendra Trivedi, and Raju Narang of assault and damaging property. In response, Divyang Shah filed a complaint against Bhadresh Shah, his son Bhumi Shah, his wife, daughter, and the 10–15 outsiders who were allegedly brought in during the clash.

Police are investigating both sides and reviewing CCTV footage from the club to understand what happened. An officer from Ellisbridge police said they are looking into charges like unlawful assembly, criminal threats, and theft.

While club officials have not made any official statements, they confirmed that an internal investigation is also in progress.
