A 41-year-old stockbroker, Kalpesh Tudiya, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head late Tuesday night near his residence in Ahmedabad’s Bopal area. The incident has triggered a multi-agency police investigation. Although a suicide note was recovered from his pocket, the weapon used in the shooting is yet to be found, raising questions about whether it was suicide or foul play.
Kalpesh, a resident of Kabir Enclave, lived with his wife and daughter and was reportedly active in stock trading.
According to a media report, two individuals visited his home around midnight. While his wife and daughter were downstairs, they heard a gunshot shortly after the visitors arrived. Rushing upstairs, they found Kalpesh critically injured. He was taken to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead.
The incident sparked panic in the neighbourhood, especially after early reports indicated that unknown persons may have shot him and fled. However, the discovery of a suicide note shifted the focus of the investigation.
Police confirmed that the weapon is still missing, which complicates the case further. Officials are exploring multiple possibilities — including whether Kalpesh died by suicide or was shot by one of the two visitors.
“There’s a chance the weapon may have been removed from the scene — possibly by someone close to the victim, either in panic or to hide evidence,” a senior officer said.
The investigation is being jointly handled by Bopal Police, the Local Crime Branch (LCB), and the Special Operations Group (SOG). Senior officers and forensic teams have visited both the residence and the hospital, and evidence from the scene is under analysis.
Authorities are also scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas to track the movements of the visitors and establish their connection to the case. Kalpesh’s family members, including his wife and daughter, are being questioned. Their statements reportedly vary, with some indicating suicide and others hinting at possible foul play.
Investigators are also examining Kalpesh’s financial records and stock market dealings to determine whether any disputes may have led to the incident.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police have urged the public to avoid speculation as the investigation continues.
