Airports in Gujarat managed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) are in urgent need of a turnaround, as eight of them have collectively reported losses amounting to ₹818 crore over the past decade. Rajkot airport recorded the highest losses among them.
A financial review covering the fiscal years 2015–16 to 2024–25 highlighted the cumulative losses. Rajkot airport alone accounted for ₹418.67 crore in losses, followed by Bhavnagar airport with ₹122.08 crore.
According to a media report,shared by the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation, excludes Vadodara and Surat airports. Ahmedabad airport was also excluded, as it was privatised four years ago.
The ministry also revealed that 22 airports across India remain non-operational — including Deesa airport in Gujarat.
