In a shocking incident in Surat, Gujarat, a woman survived a brutal assault by her husband and his friends, who gang-raped her and tried to kill her by throwing her into the Tapi river.
According to a media report, the attack began on July 24, when the woman’s husband, 35-year-old Ganesh Rajput, allegedly beat her with a hammer and stick, suspecting her of having an extramarital affair. The following day, Ganesh and his associate, Prince Kumar (22), abducted her and took her to a rented room in Deendayal Nagar, where they allegedly gang-raped and assaulted her with a metal pipe.
Later, Ganesh called two more men — Vijay alias Kachyo Ishwarbhai Rathod (29) and Appa Jagannath Waghmare (39). Together, the four took the woman to a secluded spot near the Tapi river, tied her hands and legs, and attempted to drown her.
Despite severe injuries, the woman miraculously escaped and reached Kapodara police station to file a complaint.
Police quickly registered a case of gang rape and attempted murder. All four accused were arrested within hours. Authorities have assured a thorough investigation.
Ganesh Rajput, the main accused, is a driver from Tamil Nadu with 26 past criminal cases in Surat. The other accused are from Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. The woman is currently undergoing medical treatment.
