In a serious case reported from Ahmedabad, a 28-year-old Scheduled Caste woman has filed a complaint with Amraiwadi Police, accusing a man of hiding his religious identity, sexually exploiting her, threatening her, and harassing her based on her caste.
According to a media report, on July 24, 2025, the woman, referred to as Rekha (name changed), alleged that Sabab Rasidbhai Sheikh, a resident of Nawabnagar, introduced himself as ‘Satish’, claiming to be a Home Guard. The two first met in 2021 near the LG Bridge while she was on her way to computer classes.
She said the man contacted her later that day, offering help as a police home guard. Over time, they became friends and eventually entered a romantic relationship. She claimed that during this period, he took her to a hotel in Maninagar and forced himself on her after promising marriage.
Months later, she discovered his real identity from his nameplate and confronted him. He admitted lying, saying she wouldn’t have continued the relationship if she knew his religion. Rekha then tried to end things, but alleged that he continued harassing her, even threatening her and her young son from a previous marriage.
She also said his interference ruined her second marriage within two months and that he forced her to live with him again, threatening serious harm if she refused. He allegedly pressured her to convert to Islam and change her name to ‘Afsana’, using both emotional and physical force.
Though she eventually returned to her parents’ home, the harassment continued. On the night of July 23, 2025, she alleged that Sabab tried to force her into his car and molested her before fleeing when her family arrived.
Police have registered an FIR under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Officials confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and the accused is currently absconding.
