Passengers travelling on Ahmedabad’s AMTS buses are being urged to stay alert after an elderly woman allegedly lost gold bangles worth around ₹4 lakh to a thief who took advantage of the crowd inside a bus.
The incident took place on July 3. According to the complaint, 60-year-old Vijayalakshmiben Yadav, a resident of the Vande Mataram area, was travelling with her husband from their local AMTS bus stop to Sardarnagar Ambawadi. The couple boarded a crowded bus, where an unknown thief allegedly stole a small purse containing four gold bangles from inside her handbag.
The couple later got off at the Nava Vadaj Akhbarnagar AMTS bus station to change buses. It was only after getting down that Vijayalakshmiben noticed her handbag was open and the small purse inside was missing.The stolen purse contained four one-tola gold bangles, with an estimated value of around ₹4 lakh.
Vijayalakshmiben immediately filed a complaint at the Vadaj police station.Police have registered a case against an unidentified thief and launched an investigation.CCTV footage from the bus station and along the bus route is being examined to identify and trace the accused.
