The Ahmedabad Rural Local Crime Branch (LCB) has arrested a woman accused of stealing gold jewellery from jewellery shops across Gujarat by posing as a customer. With her arrest in Vadodara, police have solved four theft cases reported in different cities.
The accused, identified as Praveenaben alias Tiny Senwa, allegedly targeted jewellery stores by entering as a genuine customer and distracting staff while examining ornaments. In a recent incident at a jewellery shop in Bavla, she is accused of stealing gold rings while employees were busy showing various items.
Following a complaint, the Ahmedabad Rural LCB formed a special investigation team under the supervision of PI R.N. Karamtiya. By analysing CCTV footage and gathering intelligence from local sources, the team tracked the suspect’s movements and arrested her in Vadodara after a surveillance operation.
During questioning, the accused reportedly confessed to carrying out similar thefts at jewellery shops in Dhrangadhra, Vijapur and Visnagar using the same method. Police said she would engage store employees in conversation and take advantage of moments when their attention was diverted.
Investigators also found that Senwa had been absconding in connection with a theft case registered at Ramol Police Station in Ahmedabad.
The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to recover the stolen jewellery and ascertain her involvement in other unsolved theft cases.
