An unidentified burglar stole gold jewellery and cash worth ₹1.5 lakh from a house in the Naranpura area.
According to police, the theft took place on the night of March 29 between 6:30 pm and 11:30 pm at a flat in Abhushan Complex near Pallav Char Rasta.
The homeowner, Dhirendra Govindbhai Bhagoji (59), a trader running a computer service business in Paldi, had gone with his wife to attend a family function in Gota after locking the house.
Before leaving, he had kept ₹20,000 in cash, a gold necklace worth ₹1.25 lakh, and a gold ring worth around ₹5,000 in a cupboard drawer in the bedroom.
When the couple returned, they found the key kept in his wife’s purse missing. Using a spare key to enter, they discovered the bedroom ransacked and valuables missing.
Police suspect the thief unlocked the door during their absence and carried out the चोरी without drawing attention.
A case of house-breaking and theft has been registered against an unknown person. Police are checking CCTV footage and questioning residents as part of the investigation.
