A local court in Ahmedabad has sentenced three people, including a former accountant of St Xavier’s Loyola School, to three years in jail for embezzling ₹3.21 crore from the school.
The case came to light in January 2020 after an audit found financial irregularities. The school principal then filed a complaint. The former accountant, who had worked at the school for nearly 15 years, was responsible for handling the accounts.
Investigators found that money was taken from the school’s accounts using forged or unauthorised signatures. They also discovered that ₹33.65 lakh collected as fees from students and parents was not deposited in the official accounts.
Further investigation revealed a larger conspiracy, and authorities confirmed that a total of ₹3.21 crore had been misused. After examining the evidence, the court found all three accused guilty and sentenced them to three years of rigorous imprisonment each.
