A consumer commission in Ahmedabad has directed Domino’s Pizza to refund an excess charge of ₹49 to customers and pay ₹3,000 as compensation for mental distress and litigation expenses.
The complaint was filed by Saroj Kumar Naik and Sasmita Naik, residents near Vaishnodevi Circle, who had ordered pizza from the Domino’s Khoraj outlet on December 25, 2024. While the online bill reflected an amount of ₹313, the delivery executive collected ₹361.57, citing additional taxes and charges. The couple paid the amount but later raised complaints through email and customer care, which remained unresolved.
The couple subsequently approached the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission Ahmedabad (Rural). Despite repeated notices, no representative from the restaurant appeared before the commission. The panel observed that charging more than the online bill without proper justification amounted to deficiency in service and an unfair trade practice.
The commission ordered the outlet to refund ₹49 with 9% interest and directed payment of ₹2,000 towards mental agony and ₹1,000 for litigation costs.
