A party involving the consumption of illegal liquor, hookah smoking and loud DJ music was busted by Gujarat University police during the Vasi Uttarayan celebrations in Ahmedabad’s Panchvati area late on Thursday night, leading to a major commotion in the locality.
Acting on inputs and a control room alert from residents, police raided the rooftop of a residential building, Centurial Vista, in Panchvati Second Lane, Gulbai Tekra, under the jurisdiction of the Gujarat University Police Station. Locals had complained about loud music and drunken behaviour disturbing the neighbourhood.
During the raid, police found 16 people, including men and women, partying on the terrace. The gathering was allegedly organised as a private get-together to celebrate Uttarayan. Preliminary investigations revealed that the event was organised by Kushal Shah.
Officials said a DJ system had been set up on the rooftop, with music being played at high volume. Several liquor bottles were seized from the spot. Police also found multiple hookahs of different flavours and food counters, suggesting elaborate arrangements for the party.
According to police, four women and 12 men were detained from the terrace. One person was found to be under the influence of alcohol, and a separate case has been registered against him under the Gujarat Prohibition Act for liquor consumption. No formal complaint has been filed by any individual so far.
Police completed panchnama proceedings in the presence of panch witnesses. All those detained will be taken to the Civil Hospital for medical examination to confirm alcohol consumption. Liquor bottles, hookahs and other materials seized from the venue are being examined, and further legal action is under way.
Senior officials said a detailed report will be released after the investigation and related procedures are completed.
