A trader from Gota, Ahmedabad, lost ₹6.08 lakh in cash and his mobile phone after an unidentified thief smashed the window of his Hyundai Alcazar and stole a bag kept inside. The incident led to an FIR being lodged at Sola High Court Police Station on Sunday.
According to the complaint by 49-year-old Maulik Panchal, a resident of Vande Mataram Township, the theft occurred on November 10 between 5.30 pm and 5.45 pm. Panchal had parked his car near Vishweshwar Mahadev Mandir, opposite Vishwas City-3, to buy medicines for his ailing mother.
He told police that he had collected payments from various business associates earlier in the day and was also carrying ₹50,000 from previous transactions, totalling ₹6.08 lakh. The cash and his Samsung Galaxy A52 phone were kept in a black bag placed on the front passenger seat.
When he returned to the vehicle, Panchal found the driver-side window shattered and the bag missing. Police suspect the thief broke the glass—causing an estimated ₹5,000 in damage—and fled with the bag.
Officers reached the spot shortly after receiving the alert and began preliminary inquiries. Crime scene inspection and CCTV footage analysis from the area are underway.
The case is currently under investigation at Sola High Court Police Station.
