In a fresh crackdown on illegal liquor gatherings, the Bopal police raided a farmhouse in Shilaj late Friday night, where several people were allegedly consuming alcohol and hookah. Over 15 individuals — including nine men and six women — were detained, and liquor bottles, hookah sets, and other materials were seized from the spot.
Officials said the party was organised without permission and the farmhouse had been rented for the event. Among those detained were several non-resident Indians (NRIs). Police have begun questioning the organisers to determine who authorised the gathering and how liquor was sourced despite Gujarat’s prohibition laws.
“The raid was conducted after a tip-off about a liquor party in progress. We have seized liquor and other items, and a formal complaint under the Gujarat Prohibition Act is being registered,” said a senior Bopal police officer.
Preliminary findings indicate around 20 people, including foreigners and NRIs, attended the party. Police are investigating the source of the liquor and whether the farmhouse owners were aware of the event. Further probe is underway.
