Two Australian players participating in the ICC Women’s World Cup were allegedly molested in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, while walking from their hotel to a café on Thursday.
The players immediately sent an SOS alert. Security officers arrived promptly, and Danny Simmons, the Australian team’s security manager, filed a complaint at the MIG police station that evening. Following this, police registered an FIR and arrested the accused, Aqeel Khan, who was reportedly on a motorcycle during the incident.
The cricketers were staying at the Radisson Blu Hotel with their team. The incident occurred on Khajrana Road on Thursday morning. According to Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi, the two players were approached by a man on a motorcycle, who allegedly touched them inappropriately before fleeing.
The players contacted Simmons, who coordinated with local security officers and arranged immediate assistance. Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra met the cricketers, recorded their statements, and registered a case under Section 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and Section 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
A bystander noted the suspect’s motorcycle number, leading to the arrest of Aqeel Khan, who has prior criminal cases. Investigations are ongoing.
