In a bold theft, an unidentified person broke into a Hyundai Verna belonging to a newlywed couple at the Sabarmati Riverfront and escaped with valuables, cash, and documents worth about ₹1.8 lakh.
The complainant, 27-year-old businessman Faham Tirmizi from Ellisbridge, told police that the incident occurred on the night of October 12, 2025, during his wedding reception at Event Centre Block-A. The event, attended by nearly 2,000 guests, was held a day after his wedding at Hotel Rene Science, Sola.
Gifts, jewellery, and envelopes containing cash were kept in two cars — a Rubicon Jeep and a Hyundai Verna owned by his father-in-law. Around midnight, a family friend noticed the Verna’s rear window smashed and several items missing, including:
- A purse with 1 lakh in cash, Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence, and debit cards
- A gold jewellery set worth 50,000
- Gift envelopes and boxes containing cash
The total loss is estimated at 1.83 lakh. The Sabarmati Riverfront West Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify the thief and recover the stolen items.
