Panic broke out in Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati D-Cabin area late at night when a car accident near Gitanjali Flats drew a crowd. In a shocking incident, the driver reportedly opened his car’s sunroof, stood up, and brandished a knife to intimidate onlookers. The episode, captured on video, quickly went viral on social media, prompting Sabarmati police to register a case under laws related to unlawful possession of weapons.
The driver, identified as Bhaskar Vyas of Hariom Section 1, D-Cabin, was traced following the viral footage. Police said he admitted to causing the accident and displaying the knife to disperse the gathering. Authorities recovered the weapon during the investigation.
According to a police officer “The accused displayed a sharp knife despite restrictions on carrying weapons under the Commissioner of Police’s notification. Legal action has been initiated, and the investigation is ongoing.”
Residents said the accident had caused widespread panic, with bystanders trying to intervene as the driver waved the knife from his sunroof. While the Sabarmati police have filed a case for possession of a prohibited weapon, the L-Division Traffic Police have yet to register a case related to the accident itself.
PI S N Patel of the Traffic Police confirmed that no formal complaint about the accident was received, and social media footage was the first source of information. Preliminary reports suggest the car was moving at high speed when the accident occurred, heightening tension among locals. Authorities are now investigating whether additional legal provisions may apply.
