In one of the biggest cybercrime crackdowns in recent years, the Gandhinagar State Cyber Crime Cell arrested 10 men from Surat for running a nationwide scam worth Rs 892 crore. The accused allegedly acted as “facility providers,” supplying bogus bank accounts, SIM cards, PoS machines, and other digital tools that enabled cybercriminals to defraud victims across India.
Police said the gang created 482 mule accounts linked to 1,549 cybercrimes, including 141 cases in Gujarat worth Rs 17.75 crore. So far, 22 FIRs have been lodged in multiple states.
The authorities seized 529 bank account kits, 447 ATM cards, 686 pre-activated SIM cards, 16 PoS machines, 60 mobile phones, 17 QR codes, and other devices. Officials said the gang’s tools were used in scams such as fake loans, UPI frauds, investment cons, and work-from-home scams. The accused are being interrogated as the probe continues, with suspicions of possible international links.
