A cleanliness drive at Gujarat University turned embarrassing on Thursday when Education Minister Rushikesh Patel, while sweeping near the BK School of Professional and Management Studies, stumbled upon empty liquor bottles.
Patel was seen discreetly handing over a bottle to GU Vice-Chancellor Neerja Gupta, an act caught on camera that quickly went viral and sparked controversy over alleged liquor use on campus.
The drive, organised to mark Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay’s birth anniversary, was followed by Patel’s interaction with students on the theme Swacchta E J Sankalp.
While the incident raised questions about campus security, the university claimed the bottles may have been thrown in from outside. Gupta confirmed an inquiry will be conducted and action taken if required.
