During Navratri celebrations in Surat, a man was arrested for posing as a police officer to enter a Garba venue through the VIP gates. The accused, identified as Yuvraj Rathod, a diamond artisan, carried a walkie-talkie and even made viral videos of himself entering the event as a “police officer.”
Rathod reportedly enjoyed the Garba festivities for two days without paying, claiming police status to gain free entry. Suspicious police and event organisers kept an eye on him before finally apprehending him at the main entrance.
During interrogation, Rathod admitted that he was fascinated by the police profession and wanted to experience the authority it brings. Surat Dumas Police have filed a case and are investigating whether he has previously misused the fake identity.
A before-and-after video released by police shows Rathod entering the venue confidently and later being taken into custody, apologising for his actions.
