Junagadh police have booked four school students for allegedly thrashing a fellow student in a hostel room following a quarrel during a kabaddi match. The incident, which occurred on July 26, came to light more than a month later after a video surfaced on social media.
According to a media report, Deputy SP Hitesh Dhandhaliya, “Some Class 11 and 12 students clashed during a kabaddi game in their school. The next day, four of them assaulted a student in the hostel. A station diary note has been filed, and action will be taken under the Juvenile Justice Act.”
The accused juveniles have been booked under Section 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for voluntarily causing hurt, which carries a maximum punishment of one year’s imprisonment.
Police said the victim had not informed his parents about the assault, and a complaint was lodged only after they came across the video on social media. Investigations are underway to trace the source of the video and to determine whether school or hostel authorities attempted to suppress the incident.
