Two passengers arriving from Dubai were caught smuggling gold worth ₹23.23 crore at Surat International Airport on Sunday. The CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) apprehended the duo after receiving an intelligence tip-off about a possible gold smuggling attempt.
According to a media report, the passengers had landed at 10 PM on an Air India flight. Acting on the alert, CISF personnel thoroughly checked their baggage and conducted body searches, eventually discovering 23 kg of gold in paste form hidden on their bodies. Both individuals were arrested.
Similar Case in Vadodara
Earlier, on July 14, Vadodara Police arrested three people near Dumas for attempting to smuggle gold powder worth ₹1.81 crore hidden in socks. Based on a tip-off, police teams intercepted a private vehicle and a bike. All three suspects were detained on the spot. Authorities also seized e-cigarettes and liquor bottles during the operation.
