New Covid-19 cases in Gujarat rose for the second consecutive day to near 9,000, according to the state health department.
The state reported 8,934 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, as against 8,388 a day earlier, an increase of 7%. The number of persons who had tested positive on Monday was 6,679.
Ahmedabad city continues to account for the highest number of cases with the number going up to 3,309 from 2,654 yesterday. The tally in Vadodara city was 1,512, followed by 409 in Vadodara rural. Rajkot city reported 320 more cases. Gandhinagar city (279), Surat city (265), Surat rural (248), Mehsana (227), Kutch (224), and Bharuch (222) also reported more than 200 cases. Fifty-nine persons tested positive in Ahmedabad rural.
The number of Covid-related deaths declined from 38 to 34, taking the cumulative tally to 10,545. With 10 deaths, Ahmedabad city accounted for the maximum number of deaths, followed by four in Rajkot city, and three in Vadodara city and Bharuch. Surat city and Surat rural reported two deaths, and Vadodara rural, Mehsana, Rajkot rural, Gandhinagar rural, Bhavnagar city, Jamnagar city, Navsari, Surendranagar, Jamnagar rural, and Botad one each.
The active caseload in the state declined to 69,187 with 15,177 recovering from Covid-19. So far, 10.98 lakh persons or 93.23% of patients have recovered from the virus.
The vaccination coverage in the state crossed 9.86 crore with 2.73 lakh vaccine doses being administered in the last 24 hours, the health department said.
