A controversy has erupted at Anand Niketan School in Ahmedabad’s Shilaj area after parents alleged that a piece of glass was found in a snack served to students.
According to the parents, the incident raised serious concerns over the quality and safety of food being provided to children at the school. When some parents approached the school administration seeking an explanation, they alleged that they were treated rudely by teachers and staff.
The matter was subsequently taken up with the food department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, with parents seeking action over the alleged lapse in food safety and the school’s response to their concerns.
The school has also come under scrutiny over separate allegations concerning religious practices on the campus. Some parents and Vishwa Hindu Parishad representatives have alleged that students were being asked to read books associated with other religions. They have further claimed that the school’s regular morning prayers have not been conducted for more than a month.
The allegations have led to objections from parents and Hindu organisations, who submitted a representation to the Ahmedabad City District Education Officer seeking intervention.
Taking note of the complaints, the Ahmedabad City District Education Officer has issued a notice to Anand Niketan School seeking an explanation regarding the allegations.
Meanwhile, parents and Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists staged a protest on the school premises over the issues, resulting in tension on the campus. The school management’s response to the allegations was not immediately available.
