The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has sealed three food establishments and seized 2,570 kg of food products and ghee as part of its ongoing crackdown on adulterated and substandard food items, including analogue paneer.
The sealed establishments include Bombay Biryani in Navrangpura, Royal Dairy & Sweets in Kalupur and Aishree Khodiyar Gruh Udyog in Gota.At Aishree Khodiyar Gruh Udyog in Meldi Estate, Gota, civic officials seized 2,015 kg of food products worth Rs 70,800, including dates, tamarind and chutney.
Samples of date-tamarind chutney, fruit squash and fruit syrup were collected and sent to a public laboratory for testing after the products were found to be prepared in unhygienic conditions.In a separate action, AMC officials seized 555 kg of substandard ‘Ramsons desi ghee’ worth Rs 3.15 lakh from Mahavir Ghee Bhandar at Advani Market, Madhupura, during a follow-up inspection on Monday.
The action followed an earlier seizure of 1,140 kg of ghee worth Rs 7.17 lakh after samples of ‘Ramsons desi ghee’ and ‘Nova pure ghee’ were found to be substandard.An AMC official said food businesses are required to maintain valid licences and pest-control certificates.
The civic body is sealing establishments operating without the mandatory documents as well as licensed units found violating food safety and hygiene norms.
