In an attempt to give a push to Covid-19 vaccination, the Surat Municipal Corporation has decided to give one litre edible oil to Surat residents taking the second dose of the vaccine from Friday.
A senior official of Surat Municipal Corporation said the civic body has tied up with an NGO to give away the oil pouches for free to recipients of the second dose of the vaccine.
“The NGO has sponsored the oil pouches. They will be distributed among the recipients until the stocks last. This is aimed at encouraging more people to take the second dose of the vaccine and contributing to the fight against the pandemic,” the official said.
According to Co-WIN data, just over 24 lakh people in Surat city have been fully vaccinated, while 13.42 lakh people have taken just one dose. While 100% of the eligible population has received at least one dose of the vaccine, there are nearly six lakh people who have not taken the second dose despite being eligible.
“We have increased the pace of vaccination, and are trying our best to ensure every eligible citizen is fully vaccinated at the earliest. We appeal to all Surat residents to avail of the second dose of the vaccine at the earliest,” he said further.
