Ahmedabad: Gujarat University is calling for public complaints regarding former vice-chancellor Neerja Gupta as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct. The university announced this unprecedented move on its official website, inviting individuals and organizations to submit written complaints by October 30.
This inquiry, which has been initiated by the officiating vice-chancellor through a fact-finding committee led by a retired High Court judge, aims to review the expenditures, appointments, and projects during Gupta’s tenure from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2026.
Complainants are required to present their grievances in writing and include a photocopy of their Aadhaar card at the Atal Kalam Building within the university. This measure provides a formal channel for anyone with concerns about Gupta’s decisions while in office.
Recently, questions have emerged regarding the purchase of Gupta’s book through university funds. Reports indicate that the Institute of Indic Studies ordered 1,000 copies of her book titled Samagra Bharatiya Anusandhan Paddhati. Allegations suggest that Sonal Malhotra, coordinator of the institute, directed this order just before Gupta left her position.
A bill totaling ₹4.14 lakh, related to this transaction with Prabhat Prakash Publishing House, has also come under scrutiny. Concerns have been raised about whether proper procurement procedures were followed and if necessary approvals were obtained.
The inquiry will evaluate these claims alongside relevant records from Gujarat University.
