India women’s cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur has stepped down from captaincy across all three formats with immediate effect, bringing an end to a leadership stint that included some of the biggest achievements in the history of Indian women’s cricket. The 37-year-old announced her decision on Tuesday, saying she was leaving the role with a sense of peace and confidence in the team’s future.
Harmanpreet also made it clear that stepping down as captain does not mean the end of her international career. Saying she is ready to “play for the love of the game again”, she indicated that she will continue her journey with Indian cricket as a player.
