The BJP has announced the names of 12 candidates for the Vadodara Municipal Corporation’s Education Committee elections, triggering discussions within political circles over the distribution of party mandates to preferred workers. The candidate list includes not only former corporators and workers who have previously served on the Education Committee, but also new party workers and lawyers.
The selection has reportedly led to resentment among several other contenders, as only a few names from the large number of workers active in the organisation have been given an opportunity. The election process for the 12 seats has been announced, with voting scheduled for October 21. However, if no candidates from other parties or groups contest against the BJP nominees, all 12 candidates could be declared elected unopposed.
According to the election schedule, scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on October 13 at the Vadodara Municipal Corporation headquarters at Khanderao Market. If only one valid candidate remains for each of the 12 seats, the candidates will be declared unopposed. If an election is required, voting will be held on October 21 from noon to 3 pm in the assembly hall at the corporation headquarters.
Vote counting will begin at 3.30 pm, followed by the declaration of results. After the election, the state government will nominate three additional members to the Education Committee. This will take the total strength of the committee to 15 members.
Once the 15-member committee is formed, the process for appointing its chairman and vice-chairman will be initiated.
