Suchika Tariyal won a bronze medal in the women’s traditional 60kg mixed martial arts event at the Asian Games after losing 0-2 to Singapore’s Hui Hoon Teo in the extra round of their semifinal on Monday.The medal took India’s tally to four at the Games, including three silver medals from shooting.
The 36-year-old Tariyal had earlier represented India in judo at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and in kurash at the 2023 Asian Games. She defeated Mongolia’s Altanchimeg Baigalmaa 2-0 in the quarterfinal to reach the semifinals and secure a medal.Tariyal’s bronze is India’s first-ever medal in mixed martial arts, which made its Asian Games debut at the ongoing edition.
