A 19-year-old Bachelor of Designing student of LJ College allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Sanand on September 1. Her father has alleged that she faced mental harassment and pressure over her relationship with a man from the same community. Sanand police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against three people named in the complaint.
The deceased, identified as Urvashi, was staying at the college hostel. She was scheduled to travel to college with her father on the morning of September 1. According to her father, when he went to check on her, he found her hanging from a ceiling fan. She was taken to the Sanand Community Health Centre, where doctors declared her dead.
A handwritten note, reportedly signed by Urvashi, named Chini Gohel, her husband Mehul Gohel and Mehul’s father, referred to as ‘Budhabhuva’.
Urvashi’s father told police that she had been in a relationship with Mehul for around six months and alleged that the three accused had repeatedly pressured her to end the relationship.
Police are conducting further investigation into the case.
