Around 350 students admitted to Nirma University’s first-year law programme for the 2026-27 academic year are facing uncertainty as physical classes have reportedly not started even weeks after the scheduled date. Students and parents have also raised concerns over incomplete hostel facilities.
Over ₹15 Crore Collected in Fees
The university reportedly collected an annual academic fee of ₹4.25 lakh from each student in May. For around 350 students, this amounts to more than ₹15 crore. Hostel, mess and laundry charges were collected separately.
Despite paying the fees, students have allegedly been unable to begin regular physical classes or move into the promised hostel facilities.
Parents Arrive in Ahmedabad, Find Facilities Incomplete
Several parents from different parts of the country reportedly travelled to Ahmedabad on August 1 after spending heavily on train and air tickets. They were reportedly shocked to find that the campus and hostel facilities were still incomplete.
Parents also raised questions about whether the building was planned to be occupied before receiving the required Building Use (BU) permission.
Management Faces Anger Over Compensation
Amid growing concerns, the university management reportedly assured parents that temporary PG accommodation would be arranged. It also promised an ad-hoc compensation of ₹1 lakh to outstation students for additional expenses and said hostel and mess fees would be refunded.
However, parents allege that they have not received the promised compensation and that the hostel fees have also not been refunded.
Parents further claim that university officials have stopped responding to their calls and have failed to provide satisfactory answers about when classes and hostel facilities will begin.
