The government has clarified that schools cannot deny admission to children seeking entry into Class 1 for not having a nursery or pre-school certificate. Citing Section 14 of the Right to Education (RTE) Act, it said that only the child’s birth certificate and the prescribed age should be considered for admission to primary school.
The government has also issued a strict warning to schools, stating that refusing admission over the absence of a pre-school certificate will be treated as a violation of the RTE Act.
District Education Officers (DEOs) and District Primary Education Officers (DPEOs) have been directed to take strict action against any school found violating the rules. All schools have been instructed to comply with the guidelines.
