Mumbai Police have arrested Ahmedabad-based builder and businessman Nilay Patel in connection with the alleged rape of a woman at a five-star hotel near Mumbai airport.
A court has remanded him to police custody until July 29 for further investigation.According to police, Patel and the woman, who knew each other, were staying in separate rooms at the same hotel.
The woman alleged that Patel entered her room without permission on July 21 and behaved inappropriately. She further alleged that he continued to harass her through calls and messages before allegedly raping her on July 22.
The woman filed a complaint at the Airport Police Station on July 23, following which Patel was arrested on July 24.Mumbai Police said a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Investigators are collecting evidence, questioning hotel staff and recording statements as part of the probe. The investigation is ongoing.
