Vadodara-based powerlifter Asma Taherali Jhabuawala scripted history with an outstanding performance at the 15th National Sub-Junior and Junior Classic Powerlifting Championship for Men and Women, organised by the Andhra Pradesh Powerlifting Association under the aegis of Powerlifting India.
The championship, held from May 15 to 20, saw participation from athletes across the country. Representing Gujarat, Asma emerged as one of the standout performers, winning four gold medals and setting three national records.
She became the first athlete from Gujarat to achieve the rare feat of claiming four gold medals and creating three national records at a single national championship. Her record-breaking performances came in the total lift category with 390 kg, the GL points category with 167.5 points, and the bench press event with a lift of 80 kg.
Apart from her national records, Asma secured gold medals in all four categories—squat, bench press, deadlift, and overall performance—further strengthening her reputation as one of Gujarat’s most promising powerlifting stars.
