Urvil Patel from Mehsana created history with a sensational batting display at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, equalling the record for the fastest fifty in Indian Premier League history.
Playing for Chennai Super Kings against Lucknow Super Giants, the 27-year-old wicketkeeper-batter smashed a half-century in just 13 balls, matching the record earlier set by Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Patel came to the crease with CSK at 45/1 in the 3.4th over while chasing a target of 204 runs. He launched an explosive attack, hitting seven sixes and a four to reach his fifty in record time. He eventually scored a rapid 65 off 23 balls, including two fours and eight sixes, before being dismissed. His innings played a crucial role in helping Chennai Super Kings secure an important victory.
In an emotional moment after reaching the milestone, Patel displayed a note reading, “This is for you, Papa,” along with blessings dedicated to Sadhi, Jogni, Chehar, Goga, and Sikotar Goddesses.
The fastest IPL fifty record was first achieved by Yashasvi Jaiswal of Rajasthan Royals against Kolkata Knight Riders on May 11, 2023. With his explosive innings on May 10, 2026, Urvil Patel now jointly holds the record for the fastest half-century in IPL history.
The innings comes shortly after Patel’s impressive performances in domestic cricket, including record-breaking centuries in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Bhupendrabhai Patel congratulated Urvil Patel on his achievement and praised his outstanding performance, saying such accomplishments bring pride to Gujarat’s sporting legacy.
