Students seeking admission to five-year integrated law programmes are facing uncertainty as the courses have not yet been included in the registration process under the Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS) portal.
Online admissions for colleges affiliated with government universities have already started through GCAS. However, students applying for integrated law programmes after Class 12 currently have no option to register for these courses on the portal.
For the last two years, admissions to government universities in Gujarat have been conducted through the centralized GCAS system. The platform was implemented despite objections raised by students, parents, professors, college administrators, and even some university vice-chancellors.
Sources from law colleges said that integrated law courses offered by departments of Gujarat University and four affiliated colleges are still awaiting formal approval. As a result, the courses have not yet been added to the GCAS registration system.
According to sources, the courses will be included on the portal only after approval is granted by the Bar Council of India. Until then, students interested in these programmes will have to wait for further instructions.
Meanwhile, students who can afford the higher fees charged by private universities are proceeding with admissions independently instead of waiting for the GCAS process to begin.
There is also increasing demand from students and academic circles that courses requiring mandatory approvals from regulatory bodies should remain outside the GCAS system until official permissions are received.
