Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is set to end his second stint with Mumbai Indians after the five-time IPL champions agreed to trade him to Punjab Kings in exchange for India pacer Arshdeep Singh ahead of the IPL 2027 mini-auction. The high-profile swap has reportedly been completed between the two franchises, although it is still awaiting formal approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
According to an IPL source, Pandya is comfortable with the move and is ready to play under Shreyas Iyer, who is expected to continue as Punjab Kings captain. The decision to bring the two players into a direct exchange was reportedly taken by Punjab’s captain and coaching staff. Although parting ways with Arshdeep was a difficult call for the franchise, his consistent performances and long association with the team made the decision particularly significant. The left-arm pacer has been with Punjab since 2019 and emerged as one of India’s leading fast bowlers through his IPL performances.
The proposed move will bring an end to Pandya’s three-season return stint with Mumbai Indians, which began in 2024 when he replaced Rohit Sharma as captain after being acquired from Gujarat Titans. His leadership tenure saw mixed results, with Mumbai failing to reach the playoffs in two of the three seasons. Punjab will now look to utilise Pandya’s batting and bowling abilities to strengthen its all-round department, while Mumbai will gain a proven left-arm pace option alongside Jasprit Bumrah. However, Pandya’s fitness remains a concern as he has been sidelined from competitive cricket since IPL 2026 due to injury setbacks. The IPL 2027 mini-auction is scheduled to take place in Goa on December 16.
