The Sola High Court police have filed a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust after a city resident accused two immigration consultants of duping two people of ₹31 lakh by promising Canadian permanent residency (PR).
According to the FIR, Sandeepkumar Patel (35), a pharmaceutical company employee, was approached by Ruchita Babu and Hardev Babu, partners of Dwisha Consultants, which had an office near the Gujarat High Court on SG Highway.
Patel said that in February 2023, he contacted the consultants to apply for Canadian PR for himself, his wife and daughter. After checking their documents, the agents quoted a total fee of ₹58 lakh and asked for an advance payment.
Between November 2023 and May 2024, Patel allegedly paid ₹16 lakh through bank transfers and cash, based on assurances that the PR process was underway and a Canadian job offer had been arranged. He also claimed that his brother-in-law’s brother was persuaded to apply through the same firm and paid ₹15 lakh.
Despite repeated follow-ups, the consultants allegedly avoided meetings and later shut down their office. Patel said he then discovered that both accused had left for Canada and stopped responding to calls and messages. No progress was made on either PR application, and the money was not returned.
Police said a total of ₹31 lakh was collected on the promise of arranging Canadian PR, but the agents neither completed the process nor refunded the amount. An investigation is underway, with police recording statements and examining financial transactions to trace the accused.
