The Anjali crossroads assault case in Ahmedabad has taken a fresh turn, with city police registering another complaint against Bansari Thakkar for allegedly abusing police personnel and threatening to get them stripped of their uniform.
The incident traces back to Friday evening when Thakkar, a lawyer, was stopped by traffic police at Anjali crossroads for allegedly jumping a traffic signal. When asked to show her driving licence, she reportedly demanded the identity card of a head constable. During the ensuing argument, the constable’s ID card reportedly fell to the ground, after which he allegedly assaulted her. The situation soon escalated into a heated exchange, with Thakkar accused of misbehaving with the police personnel.
Following the incident, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) suspended the head constable involved, while a case was registered against Thakkar for allegedly obstructing a public servant while performing official duty.
Meanwhile, another video of Thakkar surfaced on social media, purportedly recorded earlier at Shyamal crossroads. In the clip, she is allegedly seen abusing police personnel and threatening to get their uniforms removed, claiming to be a High Court lawyer. Taking note of the viral video, the DCP ordered an inquiry.
Police investigation revealed that the video dates back to November 14. Acting on official instructions, the N Division Traffic Police registered a complaint based on a statement from woman police constable Shraddhaben. She stated that while on duty at Shyamal crossroads, Thakkar was stopped for riding a scooter without wearing a helmet. During the check, Thakkar allegedly used abusive language and behaved aggressively.
According to the complaint, police attempted to issue an e-memo through a mobile application, but due to a technical glitch, the challan could not be generated and Thakkar was allowed to leave. She allegedly returned shortly thereafter, demanding cancellation of the memo and again abused the police personnel, threatening legal action and removal of their uniforms.
Based on these allegations, the N Division Traffic Police have initiated legal proceedings against Bansari Thakkar.
