The Navrangpura police have busted an alleged international fraud call centre that cheated Indians living abroad by selling fake medical packages in dollars. In a late-night raid at a commercial office on Ashram Road, police detained 12 employees — including women — and the alleged mastermind, 35-year-old Abhishek Ramnarayan Pathak.
The racket reportedly operated from an office in the Sakar-9 building under the name Moonrise Remedy Care Pvt Ltd. Police said the team procured mobile numbers of Indians overseas, impersonated US-based callers, and sold “medicine schemes” for various ailments.
How the racket was exposed
Around 12.30 am on November 24, a tip-off alerted police about a call centre charging $600 for fake medical packages. When officers reached the locked office, a team leader stepping out confirmed the ongoing operations and identified Pathak as the director inside.
Mastermind admits to cheating, say police
According to the FIR, Pathak admitted that the firm cold-called overseas Indians using US identities and collected upfront payments. In most cases, no medicines were sent; when they were, they were of extremely poor quality. Complaints and refund requests were allegedly ignored.
Employees found making live calls
Inside the office, police found 12 staffers actively making calls using dialler software and spreadsheets containing overseas contact details. A large amount of electronic equipment — desktops, smartphones, SIM cards and call logs — was seized.
Months-long fraud operation
Police said the accused had planned a systematic scheme to cheat NRIs and had set daily call targets for staff. The FIR includes charges of cheating, criminal conspiracy and violations under telecom and IT laws.
All accused have been detained for questioning. Forensic analysis of seized devices and financial trails is underway, and more arrests are likely, police said.
