A police inspector posted at the Gandhinagar Police Control Room has been booked for allegedly molesting a woman student inside a lift, an incident that has caused widespread concern within Ahmedabad’s police circles. The complaint has been filed at Vejalpur Police Station.
According to the FIR, PI Barkat Ali Chavda allegedly approached and molested the student while she was in the control room premises for official work. Shocked by the incident, the student immediately reached out to the Abhayam Women’s Helpline, after which counsellors advised her to file a formal complaint.
Following her written complaint at Vejalpur Police Station, senior officials confirmed that a molestation case has been registered. The inspector will be questioned, and CCTV footage from the premises is currently being reviewed as part of the investigation.
Vejalpur police have assured that the matter will be investigated impartially and that action will be taken strictly based on evidence.
The incident has reignited concerns over women’s safety within government offices and the conduct of those entrusted with law enforcement responsibilities.
